WALTER BURRITT

Walter, who possessed the visage of a character actor and the voice of musical leading man, was money in the bank for Phoenix companies in the mid-1950s and early ’60s.

He worked mostly at Phoenix Little Theatre where he starred in Call Me Madam in 1957, Macbeth in 1958 and I Remember Mama in 1960.

He also delivered a well-received Kismet for the Phoenix Civic Light Opera Company, which would evolve into the much loved Phoenix Musical Theatre.

Joesph, or Joe, as he was sometimes billed, was a handsome actor popular on Phoenix stages in the 1960s and ’70s.

He was primarily associated with Arizona Repertory Theatre, for whom he starred in Desire Under the Elms, Volpone, The Lower Depths, Moon for the Misbegotten, Counterpoint West and A Sleep of Prisoners and directed The Private Ear and the Public Eye.

He earned rave reviews for his Octavius Caesar in Antony and Cleopatra at Phoenix Little Theatre/Arizona Repertory Theatre.

He spent two years in the cast of the off-Broadway hit, The Trojan Women.
