Kyle Lawson covered Valley theater for 40 years, first for the Scottsdale Daily Progress, then for the Phoenix Gazette and Arizona Republic.
During that period, he interviewed local and national personalities, charted the history (and demise) of Arizona theater companies and frequently visited New York, London and the regional stages at Ashland, Oregon, San Diego (the Old Globe) and Cedar City, Utah.
He earned the first Lifetime Achievement Award from the Governor’s Arts Awards/Arizona Commission on the Arts and was honored with the Arizona Theatre Service Award from Actors Equity,
A bit of trivia: He was the last person to interview actor Bob Crane, shortly before the “Hogan’s Heroes” star was murdered while appearing at a Scottsdale theater in 1978.
Kyle passed away on Feb. 1, 2018.
